Steer-tailing
IS NOT A SPORT
- IT IS ANIMAL ABUSE -
And it is illegal in Illinois.
Tearing. Breaking, Wounding. All for entertainment.
Steer-tailing (coleadero) is often framed as tradition—but tradition does not justify harm. When examined through ethics, legality, and basic definitions of sport, it becomes clear: this is not sport. This is violence. Being allowed through loopholes and special permits.

Inflicting pain to animals is against the law- so is steer tailing.
Please send an email or make a call to JB Pritzker, urging him to end this horrifying abuse.

Immediate Action Needed: Assign SB 45 to Committee and End Illegal Steer Tailing
Dear [Senator Last Name],
I am writing to express serious concern over the continued inaction on steer tailing in Illinois and the failure to move SB 45 forward.
Steer tailing is an inherently cruel practice that causes severe injury and distress to animals, and these events violate existing Illinois state law. Despite repeated outreach from animal advocates, these violations continue unchecked, and concerns raised by the public have gone unanswered.
SB 45 must be removed from assignments and formally assigned to a committee so that it can be debated, heard, and voted on. Allowing this bill to stall procedurally enables the continuation of illegal animal abuse and undermines Illinois’ animal welfare statutes.

I urge you to co-sponsor SB 45, publicly support a ban on steer tailing, and advocate for its immediate assignment to a committee.

Sincerely,

Dear Governor Pritzker,

Animal advocates have repeatedly called on your office for leadership on this issue. I urge you to publicly support SB 45, demand enforcement of existing law, and ensure this bill is advanced out of assignments and into committee without further delay.
Illinois law is already clear. What is missing is political will and accountability. Continued silence sends the message that illegal animal cruelty is being tolerated.
I expect action—not further delay—on this matter.
Sincerely,

Ancient Arenas

History shows us that societies that normalize cruelty often lose sight of their humanity.
The Roman Empire is remembered for its brutality—gladiator arenas where humans and animals were killed for spectacle. Emperors used these events to display dominance, prioritizing violent entertainment over the serious responsibilities of leadership.
In the Colosseum and surrounding arenas, well over a million animals were killed over 650 years.
Steer-tailing has existed in the U.S. for 100+ years.
Since its inception, approximately 500,000 individual steers have been subjected to steer-tailing in the U.S.
This means...
Steer-tailing events are currently operating at a rate 3x the Romans. 🔥
