Stories of Hope

The Chicago Alliance for Animals (CAA) successfully advocated for a ban on horse-drawn carriages in Chicago, which took effect in 2021.
CAA campaigned for the ban by observing carriages, speaking at City Council meetings, and using public comment periods. The ban was passed by the Chicago City Council on a vote of 46-4.

Dogs

CAA actively campaigned for and supported the passage of an ordinance that strengthened Chicago's existing ban on retail pet sales from disreputable sources. This ordinance closed a loophole that allowed some pet stores to claim they received animals from "rescues" that were actually fronts for puppy mills. This success came in 2021, after years of advocacy, including protests and testimony.

Tigers

Because of CAA's outspoken advocates, the Soho House Chicago hotel cancelled their plans to exhibit baby tiger cubs at a Halloween party in 2016.

CAA helped end the Great Bull Run after three members testified in front of the Stickney Illinois Board of Trustees in May 2015 and urged them to cancel the inhumane event. The Great Bull Run's website cannot be reached and their last Facebook and Twitter posts were from April 2015.
